Hi Albert, thanks for the question. In fact the new tower in Vernon will be opening for patients on September 26, 2011 -- so just 7 months away. Can't wait!

Hello Mr. and Mrs. Harlton. Thanks for your support. As you know from our meetings with our neighbours, we are trying to do everything we can to ensure your issues and concerns are addressed. Unfortunately in this case, the location of the access road to the Clinical Support Building on Royal Ave. (rather than Pandosy St.) is a requirement of the City of Kelowna and cannot be modified. We will, however, try to ensure as much traffic as possible enters and exits Royal from Pandosy rather than using Speer St., including looking at various traffic calming options. Please feel free to contact us anytime there are issues that come up, or if you just have questions.

We live close by and so are interested in the construction and its progress. We know that the hospital had to expand.
We do have concerns about the traffic that comes to the east side of Pandosy and feel this should not happen as the hospital is on the lake side.
When the construction starts for the CSB, we also feel the traffic should not come down Speer or Royal Avenue but should enter from Pandosy. Also when the building is finished we sincerely hope that there will be another entrance beside the Royal Avenue entrance as it will be a traffic nightmare for us on Royal near and on Speer Street as vehicles will have nowhere to go when the taffic jams at Pandosy. The CSB should have its own entrance lane off Pandosy just like the entrance to the hospital.
Other than that, we know that a hospital cannot be built quietly and have been patient with the construction noises except for the big trucks that come onto Royal and Speer.
Keep up the good work and try not to forget about our little one storey houses in the neighborhood.

Hi Pat, and thank you for your comment. I'm sorry you had a less than ideal experience during your stay. The short answer is we hope the new towers (both in Vernon and Kelowna) will help improve patient care across the board. We believe we have some of the most caring staff in health care. When they get a chance to practice in larger, more spacious facilities that afford greater privacy for patients, we think they will be able to excel at their jobs. Brand new facilities and the latest technology and equipment should help staff be more efficient and be able to focus on really looking after patients. We also expect, with all the space added by the new buildings, including the space proposed for patient beds, we'll be able to eliminate some of the feeling of overcrowding. Will it be perfect? Probably not. But the goal is to work as hard as we can to meet your expectations. Have a great day.

I was a patient in the Hospital this summer where I had surgery. The pre-surgery screening and everything leading up to the surgery was great. My surgery went well but the after care was lacking to say the least. There didn't seem to be a lack of staff but the patient care was poor and the cleaning in the room, hallways and bathrooms was terrible. A lack of beds was also evident. Will any of these concerns be addressed with the opening of the new tower?
