Interior Heart and Surgical Centre

The third phase of the Interior Heart and Surgical Centre Project will be the construction of a new 12,970 square-metre (139,590 square-foot) building to house the Heart and Surgical Centre. Construction is expected to begin in 2012 after construction of the Clinical Support Building is completed.

One of the most important aspects of the new project is that it will be an integrated critical care facility. The permanent Interior Heart and Surgical Centre will include a brand new, state of the art surgical unit with capacity for 15 operating rooms. The surgical suite will be fully integrated with a complete cardiac revascularization program, including open heart surgery with specialty care beds and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs).

The IHSC Building is currently in the procurement phase. What this means is the Request for Proposals has been issued to three shortlisted companies. They are in the process of developing their responses to the RFP. A “preferred proponent” will be selected in April 2012, with negotations toward a final contract scheduled to be complete by June 2012.
