Request for Proposals Issued for KGH Clinical Support Building

The Request for Proposals (RFP) to design and construct the Clinical Support Building (CSB) at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) was issued to three shortlisted teams today.

The release of the RFP represents a significant stage in the procurement process. The three proponent teams invited to participate in the RFP process are:

• Acciona Stuart Olson Joint Venture;

• Graham Design Build Services, a JV; and

• PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc.

RFP submissions are due this fall, with the contract award expected in late 2010. The CSB is part of the $448 million Interior Heart and Surgical Centre (IHSC) Project. Laboratory and clinical support departments in the existing hospital will move into the CSB in preparation for the start of construction on the IHSC building in 2012.

The CSB will be constructed across Pandosy Street from the main KGH campus. It will be a threestorey, 7,850 square-metre (84,470 square-foot) building. The IHSC building will be 12,970 square metres (139,590 square feet) and located at the corner of Pandosy and Rose Avenue. The IHSC Project also includes renovations to the existing Royal and Strathcona buildings, and fit-outs in the new Patient Care Tower.

The combined values of the Kelowna and Vernon Hospitals Project and the IHSC Project bring to almost $900 million the value of health care capital construction in the Okanagan.

Construction of the CSB is expected to start in early 2011 with completion estimated in 2012.
